Birthday Boy

We were so happy to have all of you over for dinner and cake over the weekend. Gus felt like a rock star. We all appreciate the food you brought and the nice gifts. Here is a little video tutorial on how to properly eat birthday cake.

Amazing Mountain Bike Ride

Please forgive me for posting this picture of myself as I'm very much aware that it's pure cheese. However, it does prove that I was really there and didn't just steal somebody else's pictures. If you'd like to see more click here for the complete spread. Note: Riders like to capture images of the trail, so for those of you who don't ride just focus on the scenery and ignore the incredible singletrack winding through the shot. Also, you can click a picture to see it full size.

Dad/Grandpa went in for his biopsy this past week. Just a couple of days ago he got a call from the hospital to let him know there was no sign of cancer. This is such a relief. The doctor finally told us that only 20% of those he biopsied ended up having cancer. He hadn't told us that before and we were under the impression that when the count is high it's pretty certain it's cancer. So all these weeks we've been worried and checking options and reading up on how best to treat prostate cancer. There really weren't any good options. Whew! I think Dad feels like he has a new lease on life.
Darrin and Alicen didn't mention this, but as we let you know Alicen's grandfather (her step-dad Doug's father) passed away recently. He was only seventy-five. I'd post the obituary about him but I don't know how to do that. He had ten children, 40 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren and it sounds like he was a really great guy. The funeral was held in Provo and we understand it was a beautiful meeting. Malia participated and sang with her cousins.
I'm trying to think of other news: On my side, Annette and Lowell's Hannah was baptized this past week and we understand that Toni's son who just got back from his mission will be getting married this fall or winter. (His girlfriend waited) I imagine Cami and Mark will probably be letting you know about Alder's big day.

Malia's little world...

We're pretty sure Malia thinks Tessa was just a late Christmas present for her. She's very persistent in telling everyone she meets that "this is my sister Tessa." The picture above shows her favorite seating arrangment...Tessa on the right and girl on the left.

Malia has entered the independent age of wanting to dress herself. Sometimes she comes to us with some funny predicaments.

Meet our little kitty. She's very authentic in this role.

Malia is convinced that now that summer has arrived she cannot go out without her hat (Grandma Toni would be proud) and her "sunscream." And the capris she is wearing here are her "summer pants" which she longingly waited all winter to put on and now rarely wants to take off. (Mom washes them after she goes to bed occasionally) :)
